ABSTRACT

The professional practice is the means that allows students to apply the knowledge learned during their training process and strengthen the competencies of knowing, knowing how to do and being/coexisting. The article synthesizes the characteristics and processes developed from the professional practice course at the Corporación Universitaria del Caribe in pandemic. Meanwhile, the practice process was adapted to the contingency by adopting new modalities of practice at institutional level (telepractice, work at home, advisor/tutor practice, research, entrepreneurship and telepsychology) to guarantee the students the pedagogical space that allowed them to put into practice their knowledge and disciplinary competences. © GKA Ediciones, authors.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: COVID-19 has been a multi-dimensional challenge for humanity, even more so for decision-makers responsible for acting in an accurate and timely manner to confront it. In Peru, with is a current favorable trend of the Pandemic, the spread of the Delta variant is imminent, hence the need for predictive information that makes it possible to make early decisions to mitigate its effects. Objective: To simulate scenarios applying the physical-mathematical modeling to predict the behavior of COVID-19 in Peru and facilitate decision-making. Material and Methods: Physical-mathematical modeling using MATLAB software tools and functions. Results: Determination of the behavior of the main variables associated with COVID-19 in Peru;physical-mathematical modeling based on the classic SIR with new compartments related to vaccination and those exposed, as well as its adjustment to the data from Peru;simulation of scenarios including the Delta variant for deceased persons, cumulative number of infected individuals, and infection in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Conclusions: The model conceived for the simulation of COVID-19 evolution scenarios demonstrated its ability to predict the behavior of the most important variables that determine such evolution in Peru;another wave of infections may occur and cumulative figures between 2.9 and 3.36 million infected individuals and between 215 and 255 thousand deaths may be reached. The main mitigation strategies should be aimed at guaranteeing social distancing and isolation, as well as increasing the vaccination regimen. © 2021 Universidad de Ciencias Medicas de La Hab. ABSTRACT

This paper explores the bioethical dimension of the vaccination process for COVID-19 in pregnant women. To achieve this objective, the following aspects are considered: 1) the historical antecedents of immunization, rescuing the importance of the works of Wortley, Jenner, Pasteur, among others. 2) The dilemmas that have arisen around the practice of vaccination, among which the growing commercialization of the pharmaceutical industry stands out, articulating to a macro project of globalization and social exclusion. However, in the midst of this onslaught of the contemporary economic model, key approaches emerge to safeguard the right to life and the protection of human dignity, such as the Universal Declaration of Bioethics and Human Rights proposed by UNESCO in 2005 3) The various obstetric and ethical positions considered for the use of vaccines in pregnant women. 4) The dilemmas arising from the implementation of vaccines for COVID-19 on pregnant women, not yet having enough scientific documentation to know the adverse effects in the future. It concludes on the need to evaluate each particular case before making a decision regarding the immunization of women in the midst of the pandemic, considering, previously, health as a fundamental human right and the right to information, as a means to take a wise decision in relation to the subject. © 2022, Universidad del Zulia. ABSTRACT

Background: Describe characteristics of self-medication of the population, in the context of the COVID 19 pandemic. Material and Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional survey with students in a major public Peruvian university. We measured perception of self-medication of the population, as well as characteristics, consequences, and associated factors. Results: A total of 274 students of Pharmacy and biochemistry filled in the questionnaire, 80.3% of which reported to know someone that self-medicated during the COVID-19 pandemic. 98.9 % of surveyed participants considered that the current pandemic increased self-medication practices in the population and that it occurred more frequently when people have symptoms associated with COVID-19 (65.4%). The medicines most frequently used were ivermectin (79.2%), azithromycin (71.2%) and hydroxychloroquine (38.7%). Conclusion: According to the surveyed participants, self-medication has increased in the general population during the COVID-19 pandemic. Strategies to prevent these practices are needed, as they could delay adequate medical care. © The Author(s), 2021.
